Former Bears QB Joins AFC Bottom-Dweller Before Week 6
By Cem Yolbulan
Before Caleb Williams found his way to Chicago, Bears fans unfortunately had to endure a lot of quarterback suffering. Throughout the years, they had to watch an endless run of disappointing signal-callers. One of those names was Trevor Siemian in the 2022 NFL season.
Siemian was signed to a two-year contract to be a backup to Justin Fields. He started in one game against his former team the New York Jets after Fields suffered an injury. He was horrendous as he completed 14-of-25 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the 31-10 loss.
He was placed on the injured reserve list immediately after undergoing a season-ending oblique surgery. After the season, the Bears released him and had Tyson Bagent as the QB2 instead.
Since then, Siemian continued to bounce around in the NFL but eventually landed with the Jets where he started three games and finished with a 2-1 record.
However, he spent the entire offseason and the first five weeks of the season as a free agent. He finally got a call from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, and will be joining their practice squad.
NFL News: Titans Sign QB Trevor Siemian
The Titans have been a complete disaster all season, especially on the offensive end. They rank dead last in the NFL in yards and have more turnovers than touchdowns for the season.
Will Levis who started the season as the QB1 is dealing with an AC joint sprain and was replaced by Mason Rudolph in their last game. Rudolph led them to their first win of the season against the Dolphins but Levis is reportedly still the starting signal-caller.
With the quarterback situation uncertain, the Titans turned to a competent veteran who they are familiar with. Whether Siemian will get a chance at any point this season remains to be seen but it's clear that the Titans are unlikely to be competitive this year.
