The Chicago Bears shockingly waived former third-round pick Velus Jones Jr. last weekend before their Week 8 matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Jones was viewed as a potential cut candidate during training camp, but he found a way to stay on the 53-man roster. He switched positions, going from WR to RB. The coaching staff took notice of this change by Jones and decided to keep him.

However, the former University of Tennessee standout didn’t do much to start the season with the Bears. In the regular season opener against the Titans, Jones had 19 total yards on three touches.

Jones also had a disastrous special teams miscue in the first quarter against the Titans. He muffed a kickoff return that was recovered by Tennessee. After that performance in Week 1, Jones was made inactive for the Bears' next five games.

With all that being said, the 27-year-old playmaker has received a new opportunity to get his career restarted.

Bears News: Velus Jones Jr. Signs With Jacksonville Jaguars

According to Ari Meirov, the Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly signed Jones on Tuesday. Meirov did not say if it was for the practice squad or the 53-man roster.

However, with the litany of injuries the Jags have at wide receiver, Jones will be on the active roster. If you are Jones, this is a good opportunity to get back on track and contribute to a Jags team devoid of talent at receiver.

This week alone, Jacksonville lost Christian Kirk to a season-ending injury (broken collarbone) and rookie Brian Thomas to a chest contusion. However, the good news for Thomas is his injury is reportedly day-to-day.

Without those two receivers, the Jags need someone with NFL experience to create a few explosive plays. The hope is Jones can do that as he didn’t have the best three seasons in the Windy City.
