Among all of the teams who have been active in NFL free agency, the Chicago Bears have perhaps set themselves up better than any other for success in 2025.

With new head coach Ben Johnson in the fold, this seems like an organization that can compete in the NFC North for years to come, particularly considering the promise of 2024 No. 1 pick Caleb Williams under center.

Chicago clearly didn't have the right coaching staff in place during Williams' rookie year though, leading to numerous replacements. However, one coach who was recently fired finally landed a new job.

Former Bears QB Coach Kerry Joseph Joins Texas Longhorns' Staff

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, former Bears quarterback coach Kerry Joseph is expected to join the Texas Longhorns' staff.

He spent the last four years in Chicago, though anyone who was paying attention knows that the Bears' quarterback play was subpar relative to league average. That may not have been Joseph's fault considering the players he was working with, though there's a reason that Johnson felt comfortable letting him go.

Joseph has worked as a coach in some capacity since 2014, having previously played in the NFL and CFL dating back to 1996. The Longhorns' gig is an interesting one for him given they're enamored by Arch Manning's potential as an elite prospect and theoretical future top draft pick, and Joseph will now be tasked with developing a signal caller who will largely drive the college football narrative next year.

Regardless, the Bears are in a better place now. Williams is one of the most talented young passers we've seen in recent memory, though he was hamstrung by inept coaching and a lack of a clear plan. Johnson has one, so fans should feel confident moving forward.

With respect to Joseph, it's likely a good thing that he's on a different staff than Chicago's. Based on the direction of the two teams, it seems clear that it was wise to move on from him.
