At this time one year ago, Gerald Everett was looking for a new start with the Chicago Bears. The former second-round pick flashed at times with 127 catches for 1,389 yards and eight touchdowns in his first four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and continued to put up modest numbers as he spent a season with the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Chargers.
The opportunities continued to float his way when he signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Bears in free agency, but his season didn’t go as planned. Everett appeared in all 17 games and made four starts for Chicago, but he struggled behind starter Cole Kmet, catching eight passes for 36 yards.
The lack of production made it easy for the Bears to move on this offseason and Everett is still looking for a new job. While he hasn’t been signed yet, some news on Wednesday may have helped his case and threw an unexpected lifeline to the 30-year-old.
Dallas Goedert’s Contract News Could Help Former Bears TE Gerald Everett Find a Job
According to multiple sources, including NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Philadelphia Eagles have come to an agreement with Dallas Goedert on a revised contract for the 2025 season. Goedert was floated on the trade block throughout the offseason as the Eagles looked to allocate their funds elsewhere. But the two sides mutually wanted Goedert to return, eventually agreeing to a contract that will pay him $10 million next season with the opportunity to add $1 million through incentives.

His new deal is for $10M cash, with the chance to earn $1M more via incentives.
It’s great news for the Eagles, who keep one of their top weapons in the fold. But it’s also great news for players like Everett, as teams that need a tight end have to pivot with Goedert staying in Philadelphia.
John Barchard of Watching the Birds reported that the Indianapolis Colts showed interest in Goedert because of his previous relationship with head coach Shane Steichen. But Indianapolis filled that void by selecting Tyler Warren with the 14th overall pick in last month’s NFL Draft.
Barchard also suggested that the Denver Broncos were “very interested” in Goedert during the NFL Scouting Combine and ESPN’s Jordan Raanan also said that the New York Giants “looked into” Goedert at one point during the offseason.
The Broncos filled their tight end position by signing Evan Engram in free agency. But the Giants could still have an opening as they currently have 2024 draft pick Theo Johnson at the top of the depth chart.
It might be too late for Everett to find a starting job entering his age-30 season. But Goedert’s contract news could open things up and have more teams looking to him to fill their needs.
