Chicago Bears fans may remember the name – Ka’Deem Carey. Carey was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Bears after an outstanding three-year career at the University of Arizona.

The 5-foot-9 running back struggled to find his footing in the NFL as he only played 37 games across three seasons with the Bears. Carey’s best season in Chicago was in 2015 when he had 178 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns.

The former Bears running back eventually took his talents north of the border to the Canadian Football League (CFL). Over the years, NFL players such as quarterbacks Doug Flutie and Warren Moon have been successful in the CFL.

Carey made his CFL debut with the Calgary Stampeders in 2019 and has become one of the league’s best running backs. The former Bears running back will try to win his first Grey Cup on Sunday as the Toronto Argonauts will play the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Carey joined the Argonauts this offseason after spending the first four years in the CFL with the Stampeders. The 32-year-old running back was an excellent addition to an Argos’ offense that lost Andrew Harris to retirement and A.J. Ouellette in free agency to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The former Chicago running back has been terrific in his first season with the Argos. Carey had 1,060 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 191 carries in the regular season. He added 37 receptions (53 targets) for 356 yards and a touchdown.

In Toronto’s Eastern Finals win over the Montreal Alouettes, Carey had 92 rushing yards on 12 carries (7.7 yards per carry). The Argos will need a similar performance from the vet as they will not have starting quarterback Chad Kelly for the 111th Grey Cup, who suffered a leg injury last week.
