NFL free agency is in full swing. While the focus is understandably on starters and Pro Bowl-caliber players getting their big paydays, there has been a slew of signings that involve lower-end rotation players. One of those involved a former Bears playmaker who had three separate stints in Chicago.

Darrynton Evans, who spent the second half of the 2024 season with the Bears, signed with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, per his agency, Priority Sports.

NFL News: Bills Sign RB Darrynton Evans for a Third Time

Evans was a third-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2020 NFL Draft coming out of Appalachian State. After two seasons there, he was waived in the 2022 offseason. The Bears claimed him off waivers immediately, but Evans failed to make the active roster. He was then signed to the practice squad before getting elevated to the active roster.

In his first stint with the Bears, Evans appeared in six games, playing 49 offensive snaps and 63 special teams snaps. Following that stint, he spent some time with the Colts, Bills, and the Dolphins before returning to Chicago during the 2023 campaign, appearing in five more games. He managed to score his only touchdown in the NFL during that five-game stretch.

Toward the end of the 2024 season, Evans was signed to the practice squad and was promoted to the active roster on December 21. He was released by the Bills earlier in the season.

Now, Evans is returning to the Bills for his third stint. Surprisingly enough, he has yet to suit up in a game for Buffalo. This makes the Bills targeting him so early in free agency that much more fascinating.
