Round 2, Pick 47: Jaeden Roberts, Guard, Alabama

With the 47th pick, the Bears are taking an interior offensive lineman: Jaeden Roberts, a guard out of Alabama.

With each passing day, the plan is for the Bears to part ways with Nate Davis and Teven Jenkins. Davis has not lived up to the free-agent contract. He signed several years back. It was a three-year deal worth $30 million. It has been disappointing, and the Bears need a dire upgrade at the guard position.

It is important to note that Jenkins will likely not re-sign with the Bears. After he approached the team about contract extension talks at the start of the year, the Bears wanted to wait and see where things go. So far, it seems more and more likely that Jenkins will not return. The biggest concern for Jenkins is not his talent, but his injury history.

Jenkins has had numerous injuries that have plagued him. He does not seem to stay healthy on the field. It has been a growing and consistent problem. Had he always been healthy, the Bears would’ve re-signed him instantly. However, that is not the case. It is not worth paying Jenkins, who is constantly injured and missing time.

Roberts fills the need and void Jenkins will leave at left guard. It gives the Bears a young offensive lineman with promising upside. He may not be an immediate upgrade, but Roberts can still be a reliable option. Jenkins is a player with Pro Bowl potential and has proven to be a viable asset when he is healthy on the field, but it is hard to trust him and his health. Roberts is a strong, young, athletic guard who can fill the void Jenkins leaves on this team. The move would give Caleb Williams another offensive protector that he desperately needs to protect him.

According to a scouting report by Keith Sanchez of the Draft Network, "Roberts has a large, filled-out frame, showcasing a thick lower half that serves as his base for power and a powerful upper body. This size serves as a key foundational piece of Roberts' success as an offensive lineman." Roberts also has great position versatility.

This pick still leaves Kiran Amegadjie on the line. The 2024 third-round pick has been working back from a collegiate injury and has slowly worked his way back toward playing time. No one is sure what his true potential is, but he and Roberts would provide valuable guard depth that the Bears desperately need, giving Williams the proper protection he needs to be successful.
