Disliked Bear Just Confirmed He's Getting Cut in Offseason After Latest News
By Jovan Alford
Heading into Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, the Chicago Bears were already down two starting offensive linemen as offensive tackles Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright were ruled out with knee injuries.
Without Jones and Wright, the Bears likely would’ve turned to Nate Davis, who hasn’t played since Week 3. However, Davis will also not play against the Patriots, which won’t shock most Bears fans.
Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported on Sunday morning that Davis was added to the injury report with a back issue.
The 28-year-old offensive lineman hasn’t lived up to expectations in the Windy City after he signed a three-year, $30 million contract last offseason. Davis’ name popped up in trade rumors before the deadline, but the Bears couldn’t move him.
Davis’ playing time decreased this season and he was demoted after the Bears’ Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
The veteran lineman was replaced by Matt Pryor, who has filled in admirably at right guard and was the Bears’ best o-lineman in their Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. With all that being said, Davis is likely out of the door in the offseason after this latest news.
Davis has a potential out in his contract for 2025, which opens up the door for the Bears as they would only have a $2 million dead cap, per Spotrac. The veteran offensive lineman has an $11.5 million cap hit in 2025.
The Bears thought Davis would’ve been a key building block on their offensive line, but they might be in the market for a new right guard in the offseason.
