The Chicago Bears experienced a significant setback when new safety Coby Bryant was carted off of the field at practice the other day. The media was quick to flood the front lines with misinformation and predictions for how long the Bears secondary would be lacking, but no official word ever came from the team. A report that Bryant would miss x amount of time quickly came to be taken as the leading idea, but coach Johnson confirmed on Thursday that this wasn't the case, and he'll update us when they have an new information.
It doesn't look good, however, when their young rookie safety in Dillon Thieneman is getting pelted with questions about how he'll handle the position without Coby moving forward and how he'll build chemistry with someone else. But these questions often miss the mark regarding what it means to be a part of a team. Having that on-field chemistry is a must, especially when the secondary is being entrusted to a core group that has never played together before.

Thieneman revealed that Cam Lewis, Bryant's listed backup, are locker buddies. This day to day interaction breeds familiarity just by exposure, even if the guys never spoke. But that's not normally how locker room etiquette goes between teammates. For these two players to already hold a baseline camaraderie, it only means that this will translate to the field easier.
Thieneman is smart to lean upon the talent and the experience of those around him. It's not everyday that a young first round safety is thrown into a secondary room that contains so much knowledge for him to pick up.
For now, until we get a meaningful update from the team regarding the status of Bryant, there's no real reason for the Bears or their fans to panic. The preseason is still weeks away, and though it may not be a great sign that this happened, it's much better that it went down now, that rather in October or November when the season is in full swing.
