The Chicago Bears have been dealing with the price of success this offseason, and it includes several potential departures from their coaching staff. Running backs coach Eric Bieniemy has already left the team to become the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, and one more could be on the way with Al Harris interviewing for defensive coordinator jobs and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle being considered for the Philadelphia Eagles OC job.
The latter was a key concern for Bears fans due to the residual effect of the coaching staff, which was put to rest when The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that Doyle has opted to remain in Chicago and withdrawn his name from consideration for the job.
Keeping their offensive coordinator is a small victory for the Bears coming off their first division title since 2018. But it also doesn’t come without ramifications, as wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El could be in consideration for a promotion elsewhere.
Antwaan Randle El is the Bears’ Next OC Candidate After Declan Doyle Turns Down Eagles
Randle El is one of several names who have seen their stock rise after joining Ben Johnson’s staff a year ago. Formerly working under Johnson with the Detroit Lions, Randle El crossed divisional lines this offseason and played a role in the team’s young wide receiver development, such as Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, and Jahdae Walker.
Although the Bears had their share of issues with drops, Randle El continues to be a hot commodity and could look for new opportunities with Doyle’s return.
There will be 10 new head coaches when the 2026 season begins, and that means there are a lot of teams looking to assemble their staff in the coming weeks. Randle El’s most direct connection may have been a return to Detroit before the Lions hired Drew Petzing; however, plenty of opportunities for the 46-year-old are out there if he wants them.
The Baltimore Ravens feel like the league’s top offensive coordinator job due to the presence of Lamar Jackson at quarterback. But Randle El could be brought back to where he was most famous as a player in the early 2000s, as Mike McCarthy assembled his staff with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Similar high-profile openings to work with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants are also available, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Randle El get called in for an interview in the coming weeks.
With previous experience working under Bruce Arians’ tree as an offensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and seeing Johnson become one of the league’s best new coaches in a short period, Randle El has been around enough successful organizations to know what an offense should look like.
As Doyle comes off the board, there won’t be a shortage of opportunities, which could leave the Bears looking to fill a different position than what they were expecting this offseason.
