Brandon Thorn of Bleacher Report is a trusted voice in NFL circles. He helps host summits and consistently makes content with active NFL players. So, his ranking of the best right tackles in the NFL will get more respect in league circles than others. His ranking of Chicago Bears tackle Darnell Wright as the seventh-best right tackle was quite notable considering his expertise in the area.

Wright just signed an extension to be the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL. He got second-team All-Pro honors, which means the league views him as one of the elite at his position. Thorn has a high ranking for him, but not quite in line with the salary and honors.
Lane Johnson was ranked the highest. This is fair, and most would still put Johnson over Wright. Johnson is 36 years old, and Wright is 25, so the difference in salary comes down to age and what he will do in a few years.Â
The other names are notable. Joe Alt, Armand Membou, and Amarius Mims are notable because they are all younger than Wright. They were all taken in the drafts following Wright. So, this could be a case of Thorn seeing these players primed to break out, or projecting it, while a lot of the viewers at home are just catching on to their ascent.Â
Either way, it is fair to assume that when Alt, Memboue, and Mims all sign extensions with their team, it will end up being more than what Wright just signed for. This could help make the Wright contract age well.
The other two names are Spencer Brown and Luke Goedeke. Brown is 28 years old and is signed through 2028. However, he is making just $18M per year. That is a notable salary, but nothing quite like what the other names in the top seven are either making or projected to make. Thorn ranked him third, so he is the best value of the bunch.
Goedeke ranked fifth. While he is making $22.5M per year, Thorn also sees that as a value. Brian O’Neil, who ranked eighth on this list, just topped him with a $24M per year deal.Â
Overall, those are the only two outlier names when it comes to contracts signed or projected to get. So, Wright is not far off of what you would expect to be ranked.
