The Chicago Cubs just swept the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the way they did it matters just as much as the result. Game one of the three game series began with a close 6-5 victory saw Colin Rea's steady hand guiding the Cubs to victory. Shota Imanaga shut out the opposition in game two for a 2-0 win, and Matthew Boyd drove the Cubs to an 8-4 finish.

They didn't win the same way twice, but the base paths consistently had runners on base. The starting pitchers did an excellent job of creating defensive opportunities, and their longevity is exactly what the Cubs have needed. Their efforts led to the Cubs currently sitting on top of the NL Central, and at the forefront of a 5-game win streak.

Michael Busch set the tone across all three games

Michael Busch was stellar against the Diamondbacks, stepping up as a major factor and contributor on the offensive side of the ball. Busch produced in both of the games he played, and his impact was potentially the game decider in one of them. He consistently reached base, and had the biggest swing of the whole series on Sunday.

Through his two games, Busch earned himself two RBIs and two doubles. He hit for a batting average of .429 against Diamondbacks pitchers, and only struck out twice. His production was stellar, but it frequently came at precisely the moment the Cubs needed it. Being able to produce for the team in those critical moments is the kind of behavior that earns a silver slugger.

Busch didn't just go it alone. Ian Happ and Moises Ballesteros both collected home runs, while the team as a whole collected 25 hits. That's the kind of hitting that keeps a team at the top of their division, and the timing of it all was important. Consistent bats moving in the lineup is a must for a team trying to stay on top in May.

The sweep stands on its own, but the consistency behind it is what matters more. Busch gave the Cubs a steady presence in the middle of the lineup, and that showed up in every game of the series.
