The Cubs have finally snapped their losing streak, and it was a long one. The obvious relief is upon the team in Pittsburgh as they log their first win in over a week. The Cubs finally go their bats moving and it went very well. The offense finally looked alive again, and it almost seemed that they used up some of the hits they saved along the way. They finished the night with fourteen hits and ten runs.

Ian Happ finally delivered the big swing the Cubs needed

Ian Happ was essential in this one, driving in five RBIs and serving up the lead-taking home run in the seventh. This was exactly the kind of thing that Ryan Sweeney said the team needed, and they delivered. Every position got a hit in the game, but Moises Ballesteros remains without a hit, and his batting average continues to fall.

The Cubs have been in desperate need of a veteran to step up and break the cycle of mediocre offense. Happ's three run homer seemed to crack the code, and it served as a catalyst for the rest of the team. The bats had already been moving, but Happ seemed to rip the game wide open. Nico Hoerner also collected two hits, and Michael Busch had three hits with two RBIs.

The Cubs have somehow produced two separate ten-game win streaks, and another ten-game losing streak. Almost the entire NL Central sits 4.5 games or more behind the Milwaukee Brewers. If the Cubs don't start winning more consistently, they're not going to be able to catch them.

This doesn't suddenly make the Cubs into immediate contenders again, but it is a step in the right direction after a series of missteps and setbacks. The confidence at the plate that had been so prominent during the Cubs reign of terror finally surfaced after going cold for over a week.

If Chicago can build off of this offensive performance over the rest of the series, it could be a serious move back in the right way to taking the division. Tuesday night may end up being the game the Cubs needed to give the season a new life, and a new direction for the division.
