The Chicago Cubs offense finally got back on track in game 1 against the Chicago White Sox. The past 5 games had been one of, if not their worst offensive skid of the season, and the offense finally clicked tonight when it so desperately needed to. In the previous 5 games, the Cubs offense scored a total of 5 runs, a number that was doubled in game 1 against the White Sox alone.
In a game where Edward Cabrera once again struggled, Chicago's offensive surge was nothing short of necessary, and the Cubs got contributions from every single guy in the starting lineup. Carson Kelly had 3 hits and batted in 4 runs, while Alex Bregman, Ian Happ, and Seiya Suzuki each had 2 hits of their own. Even Moisés Ballesteros, who has been in an otherworldly bad slump, got a hit tonight, which should be huge for his confidence going forward.

Now would be the perfect time for the Cubs to maintain offensive consistency
The hope for Chicago is that their 14 hits in game 1 wasn't a standalone performance. The offense has gone through just as many highs as it has lows, and this needs to be the beginning of a good hitting stretch for the Cubs leading into next week. Nico Hoerner and Ballesteros need to get back into their rhythm that fueled the Cubs lineup for many weeks, but in the meantime Alex Bregman and Michael Busch seem to finally be consistently getting on base, even if the power isn't quite where it should be yet.
The Cubs offensive performance to begin the Crosstown Classic could not have come at a better time. While this series against the southside means something to players and fans, the following series will be Chicago's most important of the season so far. In a 3-game series from May 18 to May 20th, the Cubs will host the Milwaukee Brewers in their first matchup since they lost to them in the NLDS. The NL Central will and was always going to come down to the final few weeks for both the Cubs and Brewers, and winning the series in their first meeting of the year could go a long way down the stretch.
