Colston Loveland was one of the Chicago Bears' most undeniable stars of the 2025 season, but it didn't start that way. Loveland was the surprise of the draft when Ryan Poles and the Bears drafted him tenth overall. Though he had a slow start to the season, by the time the playoffs rolled around, he'd become one of Caleb Williams' most reliable targets, and he finished the regular season with the most receiving yards on the team.
Loveland is a monster of a human being, and he uses his stature to his advantage on the field. He's been reportedly impossible to cover during Training Camp, which is a good sign for Ben Johnson and the rest of the Bears offense.
Colston Loveland is positioned for a massive second-year leap
It should come as no surprise that Loveland is on the brink of a seriously substantial season if his performance continues where he left off. All recent reporting would certainly say so. His connection with Williams became undeniable toward the latter half of the season, and the more the Bears decide to lean into that connection, the more likely it is.
Caleb Williams has publicly proclaimed his belief that Loveland has the ability to become the best tight end in the NFL. With the franchise quarterback willing to throw his name on the line for you, the chemistry between the duo has soared. And that's exactly what we'll be expecting when they take the field in September.
"While it was another up-and-down day for quarterback Caleb Williams, he found Loveland in the back, right corner of the end zone from the 6-yard line. Cornerback Jaylon Johnson and linebacker Jon Rhattigan were trailing in coverage, and Johnson seemed to throw his hands up as if to say there was nothing he could do."Jason Leiser, Chicago Sun Times
Though Loveland finished the season with the most receiving yards on the Bears, he wasn't always the guy to finish the drive off in the end zone. He completed 2025 with only 6 touchdowns, but if there's anything to be said from Leiser's reporting in the Sun Times, this is something the Bears want to change.
I've made many comparisons to Loveland and Williams' connection to the Brady/Gronk relationship as well as the Mahomes/Kelce dynamic. In the last fifteen years of the league, the tight end position has changed, and if Loveland and Williams can aspire to any of the greatness that these other duos have achieved, the Bears may truly be on the edge of something big.
