The Chicago Bears Training Camp is well underway, and the buzz is finally real around football again. Not all news is good though, as it's currently being reported that the Bears new safety Coby Bryant was carted off of the field following a defensive interaction whilst covering Cole Kmet at practice on Monday.

The injury is apparently knee related, and though Bryant got onto cart using his own power, nobody can deny that this could be taken as an ill omen. Multiple reports indicate that Bryant was emotional as he departed the field. But this doesn't necessarily mean the worst, and we shouldn't go jumping to conclusions.

Obviously this isn't a good sign. With the departure of Kevin Byard, the Bears were in need of a new face with which to rally the secondary, and they wasted no time in signing Bryant to a three year deal. Shortly after that, they drafted Dillon Thieneman, and like that, Chicago's secondary is seemingly set for at least a couple seasons.

The thought that the Bears could start the season without their star safety is a grim storyline. Elijah Hicks, Bryant's listed backup is already listed on the PUP list. Cam Lewis offers experience and versatility, but replacing Bryant would mean a step away from the direction the Bears had clearly planned. A prolonged Bryant absence would put considerably more pressure on young Thieneman, and additionally, it would put quite a bit of strain on a defense already expected to be on the lower end of the table.

On the other hand, Bryant could be entirely fine. It could be a simple case of some bumped knees or something of the like, and Bryant will be back in a few days. During the season, something like that would absolutely create adverse effects, but in Training Camp, the team can afford to rest some guys for a few days until they're ready to go.

For now, Chicago must wait for the team to announce any real news about Bryant. The developments could be anywhere from detrimental to just fine, so there's no real reason to panic before the announcement comes. The Bears rebuilt their safety room around Bryant’s experience and Thieneman’s potential, making the health of that partnership critical. Until Chicago provides an update, all it can do is hope Monday’s scare proves to be only that.
