The Chicago Bears are sitting at 4-2 and just got their starting quarterback back into the lineup. They are going to be buyers at the trade deadline. One of the best players they could add is Riq Woolen of the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Ben Solak of ESPN.

Chicago Bears Could Trade for Riq Woolen

Solak noted that the Eagles will likely sell at the deadline, and that the Bears are the team most likely to entice the team to make a trade.

“That team might be the Bears, who should be desperate for cornerback help after what they saw the Packers do to Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson Sr. in Week 5,” wrote Solak.

Woolen signed a one-year $12M deal with the Eagles this offseason. The former fifth-round pick made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season. While the highs have been Pro Bowl-high, he has too many lows, and teams are wary of giving him a long-term deal.

Despite being a four-year starter and a key contributor to the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl run, the team did not extend an offer to retain Woolen this year. Woolen did not have the market he anticipated, either.

His plan was to revive his reputation with the Eagles and sign a big extension this offseason. However, the Eagles' defense has not lived up to expectations, and the team might whimper to the finish. It will not give Woolen the value he wants on an open market and will not give the Eagles the compensatory value they thought they signed up for.

The Bears can give the Eagles the pick they wanted, and Woolen can improve his value with Chicago in a potential playoff run.

Jaylon Johnson is having the worst season of his career. He can rebound, and he might have to, because the options across from him are questionable as well. Tyrique Stevenson has been a liability for a few years now. He is also banged up.

So, they have been starting fourth-round rookie Malik Muhammad. Muhammad has flashed in moments, but he fell in the draft due to his size. That can show in big moments. Meanwhile, Woolen is one of the bigger, more athletic cornerbacks in the NFL.

The Bears can rotate Muhammad and Woolen and phase Stevenson out. They could have insurance if Johnson continues to struggle too. It would make sense for the Bears to trade for Woolen.
