Chicago Bears fans have had time to watch their favorite team and convince themselves that every pick they made was a smart one. However, the reasons for pessimism that were there pre-draft for every player are still there. When looking directly at their rookie season what are things that could hold these players back?
Chicago Bears 2026 rookie draft class biggest questions
Dillon Thieneman
Theneman is much more of a linear athlete than he is when it comes to change of direction. Teams are able to find ways to get him in mismatches in coverage early into his career. Â
Logan Jones
Jones was expected to fall further into the draft because he is a bit undersized and could get overpowered. The team might have to transition to him during a playoff stretch and he might not be physically capable against other contenders in big stretches.Â
Sam RoushÂ
Roush is known to be a blocking tight end, but his arm length could be a problem translating into the NFL. A bad scenario would be him being much less productive as a blocker than expected due to this, making him an expensive, less helpful version of Durham Smythe.Â
Zavion Thomas
We have probably seen a similar worst case scenario with Velus Jones. The thought is that he can return kicks, be a receiver and work with the ball in his hands, but his track record as a return man is not great, he has not show enough as a receiver, and it is obvious when he is on the field what will happen.Â
Malik Muhammad
Muhammad is a bit undersized for a cornerback. The team is trying to transition him to the slot after playing the outside for his entire career. However, it might take him some time to transition and he could be stuck where he is too small to play outside, but not quit shifty enough for the slot.Â
Keyshaun Elliott
Elliott could be a bit limited on special teams. In a room with Devin Bush, TJ Edwards, Noah Sewell, Ruben Hyppotlite and Jack Sanborn, he is not a lock to make the roster.Â
Jordan van den Berg
A lot of analysts were surprised to see van den Berg get drafted, so not many would be shocked if he got cut this summer. Defensive line is another deeper group with Grady Jarrett, Gervon Dexter, Neville Galimore, James Lynch and Kentavius Street all in the mix.
