Chicago Bears may have landed the biggest steal of the 2025 NFL Draft

A recent re-draft has Luther Burden climbing well above where Chicago selected him after an impressive rookie campaign.

If the NFL got to re-draft the 2025 draft class, the Chicago Bears would not get anywhere close to taking Luther Burden with the 39th overall pick. According to Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report, Burden would be the 26th pick if the league re-drafted the class.

The Chicago Bears found a draft steal in Luther Burden

Funnily enough, Burden had a slow start to his career despite his rookie year being so impressive. Burden had 19 catches for 249 yards through the first nine games of his rookie season. He was averaging 2.1 catches for 27.7 yards in that span.

Then, the light came on towards the end of the season. From Week 10 through the end of the regular season, Burden had 28 catches for 403 yards. He was averaging 4.7 catches for 67.2 yards per game. So, he more than doubled his production down the stretch.

Those lasting memories, plus a few notable playoff catches, have Burden much higher on draft boards than he was before he entered the NFL.

Burden was the fourth receiver off the board in this re-draft. That is notable because the receiver was viewed as one of the deeper positions in the class. Moving up two spots among players at the same position after only one season is a strong sign of how much his stock has risen.

In the real NFL draft, he was the sixth receiver taken. Davenport still had Travis Hunter and Tetairoa McMillan as top ten picks. Emeka Egbuka went ahead of Burden in the draft, but he went even higher after his rookie year.

Then, it was Burden, who was taken ahead of Matthew Golden and Jayden Higgins. Golden was taken 23rd overall but had just 361 yards during his rookie year. Higgins was drafted 34th, but produced 525 yards on 41 catches. That is not bad, but just behind Burden, who had 47 catches for 652 yards.

Lastly, the Bears' pick at tenth overall remained Colston Loveland. Seven of the top nine players went in the top nine, just in a different order. Jaxson Dart and Tyler Shough made it into the top ten after strong rookie seasons at the most important position in sports. They jumped in for Ashton Jeanty, who went 20th, and Mason Graham, who went 13th.

So, the Bears passed on Graham and Jeanty in this exercise and stuck with the player they originally selected.
