If the Chicago Bears win the NFC North, it will be the first time they win the division in back-to-back seasons since 2005 and 2006. According to Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports, the Bears have the quarterback and the head coach to make it happen.
"After going 11-6 and winning the NFC North last season, Chicago builds on that success in Year 2 of the Ben Johnson era. Caleb Williams emerges as a legitimate MVP candidate, wins double-digit games once again and leads the Bears to consecutive division titles for the first time since 2005 and 2006. "Tyler Sullivan
Chicago Bears can win back-to-back division titles for the first time in 20 years
A lot of this has to do with the Bears, but Sullivan also notes that the teams in the division are going to make it tough, even if Williams and Johnson continue their ascension in the NFL.
Sullivan notes that the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions are waiting for the Bears to slip just once for them to take over the division. That is the reality of playing in what many consider the toughest division in football. There is very little margin for error, and even a small step backward could be enough to change the standings.
However, the Minnesota Vikings will also be making a claim to the division. So, the Bears not only need their duo to continue, but they also need to find ways for the other teams to slip.
The case for the Bears to remain over the Packers is that the Packers have a lot of shuffling going on offense. They have new starters at left tackle, right guard, and center. They also lost two key receivers. On top of that, their star pass rusher, Micah Parsons, might not be healthy for the start of the season.
Meanwhile, the Lions were not the same without Ben Johnson. They will now have their third offensive coordinator in as many seasons as well. They will also have new starters at left tackle, center, and right tackle entering the year. Beyond that, Brian Branch might miss the entire year, Kerby Joseph has a questionable health designation, and Terrion Arnold was just released. Their secondary is incomplete.
Meanwhile, the Vikings were not even listed because their quarterback situation is currently such a big question mark. So, while the Bears have concerns and reasons why things will not go well, the other three teams bring their own questions as well.
