A lot of things have changed with the Chicago Bears since the season ended in January. The Bears were able to land Ben Johnson as the head coach while also making some huge additions to the offensive line.

The Bears have made it a priority to build around Caleb Williams after the disaster campaign in 2024. After starting 4-2, Chicago dropped 10 straight games and in the midst of the losing streak, Matt Eberflus was fired. The loss that spiraled the season came in Week 8 when the Washington Commanders beat the Bears 18-15 at the hands of a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels to Noah Brown.

Leading up to the final touchdown pass, the Commanders completed two passes along the sidelines for 11 and 13 yards. Eberflus said those completions didn't matter after the game and it rubbed players in the locker room the wrong way, including Williams.

Williams said, "How [Eberflus] handled it at that time, for that game, was, I think, one of the things that throughout the locker room people talked about and were annoyed by."

Bears Locker Room Was Upset With Matt Eberflus After Hail Mary Disaster

The Bears ended up firing Eberflus after the Week 13 loss to the Detroit Lions, where they had another late-game mishap. With the season over, the details from behind the scenes are eye-opening. By watching the Bears on game days, it was clear things were off in the locker room after the loss to Washington.

Williams' statements just confirmed it. He also said that the losing streak took a toll on him last season.

Williams stated, "When I got home, I got in my bed, I just dropped a few tears." He told Esquire he was "so beat up mentally, physically [and] spiritually” from the losses.

It was a bad environment created around Williams and it was evident with their performance. The Bears are hoping things head in the complete opposite direction with Johnson running the show now. Eberflus wasn't able to take this team to that next level, which is why he got fired in November. And when you lose the locker room, it's over. Williams' comments certainly proved that.
