The Chicago Bears picked up their first win of the 2025 NFL preseason with a dominant 38-0 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. Head coach Ben Johnson's players took advantage of the Bills' lack of starters, as the Bears finally tasted victory in August after playing the Miami Dolphins to a 24-24 tie last week.

A hot start to the game helped lead Chicago to its latest success. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams led the offense down the field on the 93-yard opening drive, culminating in a 36-yard touchdown pass to offseason signing and veteran wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus. It was an impressive play from the former Virginia Cavalier, who's expected to play a key role in the aerial attack this season.

Following the Bears' blowout win, Williams didn't waste any time revealing why he's fostered immediate chemistry with Zaccheaus.

As important as it is for a QB and WR to be on the same page on the gridiron, it's also crucial for them to have an off-field connection. While they don't necessarily have to be best friends, an off-field bond can take that connection to the next level, and that seems to be the case for the Bears' duo.

"It's been great, that's my guy — on and off the field," Williams said following Sunday's win, per CHGO Bears.

While returning WRs DJ Moore and Rome Odunze are talented in their own right, the Bears wanted to inject more experience into Williams' arsenal, leading them to sign Zaccheaus back in March. The 28-year-old playmaker has nearly 2,000 receiving yards with 13 touchdown grabs across the six previous seasons, and is coming off a 2024 performance that saw him tally a career-high 45 catches for 506 yards and three TDs in 17 games with the Washington Commanders.

During his introductory press conference, Zaccheaus expressed excitement about playing with Williams; however, he also had some advice for the young QB. Although all the talent is there, the Plainfield, NJ native told Bears Wire's Mike Pendleton that Williams will have even more success if he slows things down, and it looks like he's already accomplishing that goal.

"Very calm, composed, and just in the moment," Zaccheaus said about Williams' composure during huddles (h/t @Nicholas Moreano). "It's good to see."

Williams finished the game by completing 6-of-10 passes for 107 yards, one touchdown, and a 130.0 passer rating before being replaced by Tyson Bagent. Considering how he already has a stranglehold on the Bears' starting QB role, it'll be interesting to see if Williams plays at all in Friday's preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Regardless of playing time, though, Bears fans should be excited about the growing Williams-Zaccheaus connection and the heights it could reach once the NFL regular season begins.
