Caleb Williams was recently named number 51 on the NFL's Top 100 series that's been going on this offseason on the NFL's X account. The young Chicago quarterback is entering into his third season in the NFL and second season under head coach Ben Johnson's tutelage. To be named in the top 100 alone is a massive honor, but to just barely miss the top 50 as well, is an excellent spot to be in.
This is Williams' first appearance on the list, as he went unlisted last year. Rightfully so, considering where the Bears were a season ago as compared to now. It's remarkable how big of a difference competence can truly make.
Williams has earned the respect of his NFL peers
The really special part of this list is that it's entirely based upon the rankings provided by other NFL players. It's not pundits and journalists, it's the ones actually on the field with them, the ones actually fighting and dying out there for their teams. If you want an accurate ranking of the players, the only accurate source would be the players themselves.
Williams had a breakout season in 2025, leading the Bears to a dramatic 11-6 win season that earned them the top spot in the NFC North. The road back to the top of the division won't be easy, and the Bears will need Williams to be at the top of his game if they wish to hold their spot as the big dogs. The NFC North has, in recent history, been one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL, and it's very possible that even repeating an 11-6 season won't be enough.
That's why it's important for Williams to keep his head on a swivel. Yes, it's very nice to bask in the glow of glory, especially when points of pride are involved. Even more especially when those points of pride land you on the cover of Madden. But with the season rapidly approaching, and Training camp on the threshold, it's time to Bear Down.
Having one of the top 100 NFL players leading the charge as the quarterback of your team can be something that can send a jolt of electricity to a team. If the Bears are smart, they can harness that energy and propel it through the summer and into the regular season.
Williams has already earned the respect of his peers, but a No. 51 ranking will mean little once the season begins. If he continues building on last year’s breakout, this may be the last time he finds himself outside the top 50.
