Caleb Williams Gives Big Injury Update After Week 9 Concern
By Joe Summers
Bears QB Caleb Williams shared a big update on his injured ankle suffered near the end of an embarrassing Week 9 loss to the Cardinals.
Speaking to the media, Williams said he was okay after tweaking the ankle. He was in the game with the contest well out of reach, raising fair questions about head coach Matt Eberflus' strategy for protecting his franchise QB.
Chicago lost 29-9 and could've lost Williams too. Thankfully, it sounds like he'll be okay in Week 10 taking on the Patriots in what's become a must-win matchup.
Bears QB Caleb Williams Shares Update on Injured Ankle
Williams, said it was not his decision when asked about being on the field with the game already decided. He completed 22 of 41 passes for 217 yards but was sacked six times and harrassed all game.
Having him out there in the fourth quarter was dangerous, especially given the offensive line's struggles. The Bears have routinely been outcoached this season and it feels like the writing is on the wall for Eberflus and first-year offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
There is far too much talent on this roster for the offense to struggle so badly. Chicago ranks 30th in yards per play (4.6) and we already know rookie quarterbacks can be successful thanks to Jayden Daniels and the Commanders. At 4-4, winning the division may already be out of reach.
The Bears can still make the playoffs but would be toast without Williams. Any hope for the future rests on his shoulders, so Eberflus better start acting like that.
