The Chicago Bears have announced their intention to move forward with their move to Hammond Indiana rather than move forward with the space in Arlington Heights they purchased back in 2023. Many former Bears have expressed their doubts and concerns in the wake of the decision, yet many people find the move to be unbelievable.

Brian Urlacher, NFL Hall of Famer and Chicago Bears legend recently gave his opinion on ESPN's This is Football, and his words reflect many fan's opinion.

"I do not like the Bears playing anywhere but Soldier Field. Even when they were going to Arlington Heights, which is in Illinois, they were going to be in a dome. And if they go to Indiana, they’ll be in a dome. I don’t like the idea of them playing in a dome anywhere."
Brian Urlacher

Urlacher is one of the most respected players in Bears history, and his comments are naturally heard across the city. Many fans were willing to accept Arlington Heights because it remained tied to the Bears roots in Illinois and kept the Bears in Chicagoland. Hammond represents a dramatic shift for the franchise because it marks a significant contrast from the long standing history they've built here.

There's something magical about the Bears playing at Soldier Field. Whether it's being right next to the lake, needing to deal with any inclement weather the football gods decide to send their way, playing in a dome would change the game. The real grass of soldier field has been a mainstay for generations, and it's far more difficult to think about the Bears at home on turf.

Many Bears supporters still think this announcement is yet another bargaining chip to push the Illinois legislators to put together a deal that makes more sense for the team. At the end of the day, it's about the money. It's always about the money. If Illinois is not willing to offer the franchise terms that beat out Indiana's offer, then they're sadly going.

Urlacher's opinion will not impact the Bears' decision, but it reflects the concerns many fans still have about the franchise's future. Until a final agreement is signed and construction begins, expect the debate over where the Bears should call home to continue.
