Betting the Quarterback

It is hard not to like the version of Caleb Williams we have seen in the last two weeks. The throws have confidence, velocity, and timeliness. The improvisations are highlight reels.

Draft Kings has taken note and has also noted the Lions' poor passing defense. They aren't providing positive odds until 250 yards. In fact, the over/under is 228.5 yards and the over/under on attempts is 33.5. They are offering +170 for two touchdowns, which Williams did last week after not throwing a touchdown for four games.

Pick: Caleb Williams 250+ yards (+155)

Betting the Running Back

Swift had one of his worst games on the ground last week with 30 yards at 2.31 yards per carry. Typically, Swift breaks one loose to salvage a statistical day, but that didn't happen last week.

Against a formidable Lions defense, Swift is getting +160 at 60 yards, which is enticing. At 50 yards, he is getting -105, which is a safer bet at almost even odds. The one thing about offensive coordinator Thomas Brown is that he isn't going to give up on the run. Swift will be fed.

After two weeks of terrific rushing performance by Williams, Draft Kings is only offering -165 at 25 yards and though the 40-yard mark is profitable, it is a big stretch that he'll run for that much.

Pick; Swift 50+ yards (-105)

Betting the Receivers

We have had a horrible time picking receivers the last couple of weeks. in Week 11, Swift was the only receiver who missed his number. In Week 12, Odunze, a model of consistency, was the only receiver to miss his number.

This week the stats look like the following: DJ Moore 60+ yards (+100), 70+ yards (+155); Keenan Allen 60+ yards (+125); Odunze 50+ yards (+100); Cole Kmet 40+ yards (+125); Swift 25+ yards (+200).

The Lions are the number one defense against tight ends and the number two defense against running backs. So, we'll stay away from Kmet and Swift. But they are 28th against wide receivers.

Keenan Allen and Williams definitely started to develop chemistry last week, but that was by far Allen's biggest game of the year. Williams does a great job of finding the open receiver which leads to spreading the ball, and yardage, around the entire team.

Pick: DJ Moore 60+ yards (+100), Rome Odunze 50+ yards (+100)
