The Chicago Bears have started three different quarterbacks so far this season. While Ben Johnson admitted that one of those three is going to start on Sunday, that is the extent of what he offered when he met with the media on Monday after the Bears' Week 5 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

"I think we have three guys that can win games in this league," said Johnson.

Case Keenum is 1-0 this year as a starter, while Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent are 1-1 as starters.

Ben Johnson gives mysterious update on Chicago Bears QB situation before Week 6

If Caleb Williams is healthy, he is going to be the Bears starter. However, Johnson made it clear that right now he is still awaiting the green light to ramp things up in practice.

“He’s doing a great job progressing, and we’ll see when we can make him available to help us win ball games,” added Johnson. “But he’s itching to get back as soon as he can, which is a good thing. And when we get the green light, we’ll move forward from there."

The team wants to get Williams back as soon as possible, as he gives the team the best chance to win. Still, coming back from a hamstring injury risks re-injury too soon.

His initial timeline was always three to four weeks, so his return could come this week. However, without Johnson confirming he will even return to practice it is hard to pencil him in as a potential starter.

Bagent would be the likely option if the team sat Williams. Still, he missed Week 3 with a concussion, and while he helped the Bears win in Week 4, he was not as good as third-string option Case Keenum the week prior.

In Week 5, Bagent threw two bad interceptions and was benched. To be fair, Keenum was not much better when he relieved Bagent. However, he has been better at every step so far this season.

The Bears benching Bagent opens the door to start Keenum. Two weeks ago, Johnson noted that the team would stick with Bagent because of their offseason evaluation and the bigger sample size of work they have seen in practice.

However, he is not dismissing any chance that Keenum could start after Bagent struggled so much. The practice participation of Williams will be the most interesting element to follow.
