Bears Veteran Likely Has Already Played His Final Game
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears suffered their second straight loss on Sunday, falling to 4-4 for the season. Sitting at the bottom of the NFC North, the Bears have an uphill battle to earn a postseason spot after the embarrassing 29-9 loss to the Cardinals in Week 9.
With the Nov. 5th trade deadline looming large, there will be a ton of pressure on GM Ryan Poles to be active on the market to find upgrades. Even if a deal for a difference-maker isn't there, the Bears will at least part ways with a couple of veterans.
At the top of that list is offensive lineman Nate Davis. The veteran signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Bears in the 2023 offseason and has been a major disappointment ever since. He was eventually demoted after Week 4 and hasn't played a snap since the Panthers game in Week 5.
In his absence, Matt Pryor has performed admirably at right guard. In fact, he was the highest-graded offensive player for Chicago per PFF in Week 9.
It was reported last week that the Bears were open to trading Davis even if they had to absorb some of his salary.
Whether the Bears will be able to get much in return for Davis remains to be seen but it's clear that there is no reason to keep a player who makes $8.75 million in guaranteed salary and has been a healthy scratch for the past four weeks. Even if it's only for a seventh-round pick, Nate Davis is likely headed elsewhere before Tuesday's deadline.
