Bears Veteran May Have Already Played Final Snap for Chicago
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears have lost four straight and have fallen behind in the playoff race in the NFC. They need to get back on track immediately and go on a winning streak to have a chance at the postseason.
Amidst the disappointing stretch, the Bears are making changes on the margins in the hopes of giving the team a boost before the final two months of the season. They released frustrating offensive lineman Nate Davis last week, and they are seemingly phasing out another veteran. Defensive end Dominique Robinson was a healthy scratch against the Packers and will likely struggle to see any more snaps for the rest of the season.
Robinson has been in Chicago since 2022 when he was a fifth-round pick in the Draft. After a promising rookie campaign, his role continued to be diminished, seeing fewer and fewer snaps. This season, he didn't play a single snap until Week 9. When Montez Sweat missed the game, Robinson started the game against the Cardinals and played 22 snaps.
After a solid showing in those snaps, Robinson continued to have a role in the following week despite Sweat's return. Even though he received an impressive 85.0 grade on PFF in 16 snaps against the Patriots, this wasn't enough to impress the coaching staff. In Week 11, Robinson was once again inactive.
The fact that Robinson was benched against the Packers immediately after he started in Sweat's absence and played well is not a good sign. The Bears played five different defensive ends over Robinson against Green Bay, signaling the end of Robinson's time in Chicago. Whether they part ways during the season or in the offseason, it's hard to imagine the former Miami (OH) standout having much of a future with the Bears.
