Training Camps across the NFL have begun, and an excitement around football is back in the air! The countdown has started with less than two months to go until the start of the regular season, and the Bears are doing their due diligence. This season during the preseason workouts, the Bears will be going on three separate weekend road trips for joint practices with the Browns, the Bengals, and the Titans, respectively.

The Bears will get an early taste of life on the road

"Every camp looks different. I mean, the way it's laid out in terms of having these two away joint practices, particularly week two and week three, it is going to be different. I'm excited about that, though. I think it's a great chance for our team to come together. You know, when you go on the road in particular, there's really not family. It's yous, your buddies, it's the hotel, and, you know, I think it's a great opportunity for us to bond together."
Ben Johnson

It's an unusual schedule to go on the road three weekends in a row before the season starts, but that's okay. Coach Johnson even expressed an appreciation for it, alluding that it's excellent bonding time. And he's got an excellent point. Playing in the NFL is absolutely a traveling job. I can't think of a better way to get a group of guys used to traveling together by making them travel together.

From the perspective of the players, it can be super stressful to travel with that many people all of the time. Think of all of the shared meals, hotels, altered schedules, missing families, busses, and unfamiliar facilities, all while remaining focused on the fundamentals of football. But these guys need to be able to handle that stress. It's extremely preferable to establish that flow now to remain level-headed during the season. A team that can travel together can learn to win together.

Coach Johnson has been remarkably consistent since the day he stepped foot in Halas Hall. There's no doubt that he'll be consistent with his messaging regardless of the facility he and his team are currently in. These practices will still remain physical, and demanding, and likely tougher than they were last season. The principles at hand here will determine how the Bears will be when they venture from Soldier Field during the regular season. Chicago isn't merely trying to operate as the away team. They're trying to learn how to be the visitor and still walk away with the win.
