The Chicago Bears have been active throughout the 2025 NFL offseason, and the action continued with another major signing over the weekend.

It was on Sunday when the Bears announced that they had signed star nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon to a three-year, $40 million extension. The new deal has been praised by Chicago fans as it makes Gordon the highest-paid slot-corner in NFL history.

Although seeing hard-working players rewarded is nice, big-time contracts aren't always a good thing. Some players top trying as hard on the gridiron once they reach a certain price tag, and the last thing Bears fans want is to see Gordon head down a similar path.

Fortunately, the former Washington CB is promising not to take his foot off the gas pedal.

Kyler Gordon Promises the Best Is Yet To Come After Bears Contract Extension

After putting pen to paper, Gordon spoke with reporters about his Bears contract extension. The ex-2022 second-rounder revealed that being recognized as one of the NFL's top slot-CBs has always been a goal and that his new contract won't prevent him from giving his all on the field.

"I just know I wanted to work hard to be the hardest nickel at my position and the best at it," Gordon said. "That’s something I accomplished, and I’ve still got more out there that I want to show. Definitely got a ton more."

Bears fans are likely feeling a tingle of excitement about the possibility of Gordon taking his performance to another level. He's already made a huge impact in the Bears' secondary to begin his NFL career, having racked up 147 solo tackles, 17 broken-up passes, five interceptions, and a pair of forced fumbles in 42 appearances across the last three seasons.

Gordon solidified his increasing NFL-wide reputation in 2024 by finishing Year 3 as one of Pro Football Focus' top cornerbacks in terms of coverage (76.0, 13th), run defense (76.5, 21st), and overall defense (76.0, 14th).

With Gordon and fellow standout CB Jaylon Johnson signed through 2028 and 2027, respectively, the Bears have done a great job at securing the future of their secondary. Defensive backs like Kevin Byard, Jaquan Brisker, and Jonathan Owens will become free agents after the end of the 2025 season, though, leaving time to tell which Chicago ballhawk will be the next to land a new deal.

In the meantime, the Bears will continue the NFL offseason with the 16th-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+3600) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
