The Chicago Bears finalized their roster coming out of training camp this past Tuesday with the best 53-man unit that GM Ryan Poles and first-year head coach Ben Johnson could agree upon.

Unfortunately, one of the players who made it through camp and onto the final roster ahead of Week 1 suffered an injury during the early portion of practice on Thursday.

Bears Safety Jaquan Brisker Forced to Leave 1st Practice After Cuts

As of this writing, it isn't known just what veteran strong safety Jaquan Brisker did to leave the field with an injury. However, losing any starter on the defensive side of the ball is going to be an issue for Chicago to overcome if Brisker is forced to miss an extended period.

A second-round pick out of Penn State University, Brisker has been a dependable contributor for the first two years of his professional career, racking up 100+ tackles each season to go along with five QB sacks, three forced fumbles, and a pair of interceptions. Unfortunately, concussions have been a major issue for Brisker since entering the league, with each of the past three seasons requiring the talented defender to miss time.

Should Brisker miss time due to whatever his injury is, Chicago would likely turn to 2022 seventh-round draft pick Elijah Hicks out of the University of California. While Hicks has nowhere near the game experience that Brisker does, he has proven capable of contributing when his number is called, as evidenced by his 103 total tackles in 44 appearances off the bench.

Now, it will be up to Hicks to hold the fort down until Brisker is healthy enough to make his return to the lineup. Just how well he is able to do that as one of the team's last line of defense against the pass remains to be seen, though.
