Bears Star Shows Clear Unhappiness With Team as Issues Mount
By Jovan Alford
The 2024 season was supposed to be the year the Chicago Bears made a playoff push under head coach Matt Eberflus. The Bears had a solid defense last season after acquiring Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders but needed to revamp their offense.
Chicago Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze with the first and ninth overall picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. They also acquired star wide receiver Keenan Allen in a trade and signed D’Andre Swift to a three-year deal in free agency.
On paper, the Bears finally had a good team on both sides of the ball. However, Chicago has struggled in reality, losing four straight games and in jeopardy of completely falling out of the playoff race.
After losing on a blocked field goal last week, frustrations are at an all-time high for the Bears, who are in another must-win spot against the Minnesota Vikings this week.
Chicago star pass rusher Montez Sweat was asked by reporters on Thursday if he’s personally frustrated. The veteran defensive end didn’t mince his words saying, “I mean we’re on a what, three- or four-game losing streak? Pretty f****** frustrated,” per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
It’s hard to blame Sweat or anybody else on the team for being frustrated as the Bears went into the Week 7 bye with a 4-2 record. And now they’ve had two unfathomable losses over four weeks.
Nevertheless, the good news for Sweat and the Bears is they can change their playoff trajectory with a win over the Vikings. The Vikings have won three straight games, but quarterback Sam Darnold has thrown five interceptions during this win streak.
Therefore, Sweat and the Bears’ defense must create a few turnover opportunities to help their offense Sunday.
