Bears Sign Surprise Backup QB in New Offseason Prediction
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears have lost six straight and sitting at 4-8 with five games left, they have rightfully pulled the plug on their season. They finally stopped delaying the inevitable and fired Matt Eberflus and will have Thomas Brown as the interim head coach for the final stretch of the season.
Finding a head coach will obviously be the most important decision the Bears make in the offseason. At the same time, it is clear that the team needs to take significant strides next year, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Despite the high talent level on the team, the Bears currently have the 23rd-best offense in the NFL.
Caleb Williams has underwhelmed so far in his rookie season, and the Bears have to make sure they put him in a position to succeed going forward. One way to do that could be through surrounding him with the right mentors. The Bleacher Report suggested signing veteran QB Joe Flacco in free agency to play that role.
"Chicago should look into trading Tyson Bagent in the offseason since Bagent showed some promise in the preseason and could yield the club a decent return for a player who, ideally, won't see the field in the fall. "

The Bears had Tyson Bagent as their QB2 all season. Even though he hasn't had the chance to prove what he could do this season, he had some moments in the preseason. If the Bears are able to get good value in a trade, they should go with a more experienced hand at backup next season.
Joe Flacco is about to hit 40, but he has looked decent in his stints as a starter with the Browns and the Colts in the last two seasons. As a respected, competent veteran, Flacco could be as good of a mentor for Williams as any.
