The Chicago Bears had veterans join the rookies at Halas Hall on July 22nd. The first practice takes place on Wednesday, but the Bears are still making additions to the roster.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Chicago is signing DL Tanoh Kpassagnon and DB Tre Flowers. The acquisition of Flowers makes sense after the injury news regarding Jaylon Johnson.

Per The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain, Poles stated that Johnson suffered a lower leg injury while training and it'll be a few weeks until he returns. Poles added, "We're not overly concerned about long-term."

Bears Sign Veteran CB After Jaylon Johnson Injury News

It's good news that Chicago isn't worried about Johnson's long-term health. Regardless, anything can happen, so adding a veteran like Flowers is a wise move.

He was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks. In his seven-year career with the Seahawks, Bengals, Falcons, Jaguars, and Colts, Flowers suited up in 95 games. In those matchups, he racked up 287 total tackles, 22 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and four interceptions.

The starting trio at CB will be Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Tyrique Stevenson. Outside of that, the competition for the backup roles could be had. They drafted Zah Frazier in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft as they wanted more size on the boundary, with him standing at 6-foot-3.

Flowers also fits the bill of a tall CB since he's 6-foot-3 as well. The Bears will likely rotate guys in Johnson's place at camp, and Flowers could be someone who quickly climbs the depth chart. He has started in 44 games throughout his career and would be able to give this defense a vet in the fold who can start if needed.

Last season was disappointing for Flowers, as he spent time with the Jaguars and Colts practice squads. Nonetheless, this is a low-cost deal that gives this defense another experienced starter. It'll be interesting to see if Flowers is able to carve out a spot on this roster.
