The Chicago Bears are 4-4 for the season as we enter the second half of the 2024 campaign. The team has had an up-and-down performance all year but things are looking up as they host the Patriots in Week 10 to keep their postseason hopes alive.

While the team is preparing for their matchup on Sunday, the front office has to continue thinking about ways to improve. GM Ryan Poles has to keep the offseason and free agency in mind as he tries to build a winner around Caleb Williams.

With that in mind, one of the obvious areas in need of upgrades is the offensive line. With their projected $73 million in cap space for the 2025 offseason, the Bears will almost certainly go shopping for an offensive lineman. In fact, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox projects that the Bears will be suitors for one of the best free agents on the market. Trey Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs will top the list of potential targets for Chicago.

The interior of the offensive line has been a particular concern for the Bears. Smith, as one of the best guards in the league ever since he was a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is the perfect candidate to replace Nate Davis once the disappointing veteran inevitably leaves in the spring.

Knox projects that Smith will reset the guard market as one of the most coveted free agents. Currently, five guards in the league make over $20 million in annual salary. It is almost a certainty that Smith will be another one. It would behoove the Bears to break the bank for the 25-year-old who will be a long-time quality starter for the team.
