Bears position ranking reveals where Ben Johnson’s roster is strongest entering camp

Chicago has obvious concerns at edge rusher, but several position groups suddenly look much deeper heading into the 2026 season.

The Chicago Bears are unlikely to make many changes to their roster between now and the start of the season. So, it is a good time to look through the roster and see which positions are the strongest heading into training camp. What rooms have the best combination of depth and talent?

Chicago Bears Position Ranking

Tight End

This is probably obvious because Chicago has one of the best tight end depth charts across the entire NFL. Colston Loveland is high upside and young, Cole Kmet is arguably the best number two, and they just added Sam Roush in the draft.

Quarterback

This room also features a combination of depth and talent. Case Keenum is better than almost any team's number three.

Cornerback

The Bears are pretty deep in this room after getting Terell Smith back from injury and drafting Malik Muhammad

Safety

Their two staters have the chance to be very high quality. The depth is a question, which is why the room is not higher.

Tackle

Darnell Wright holds down half of the room. Beyond that, they have three legitimate options at left tackle, so while the starter is unknown, the depth is legitimately good.

Interior OL

The obvious question here is depth. The Bears have done a good job supplementing depth through the draft with Luke Newman and UDFA Caden Barnett. They also drafted Logan Jones, but he might be expected to start with Garrett Bradbury being a question at center.

Linebacker

This room has a lot of depth, but too many questions at the top. Devin Bush and D’Marco Jackson could be one-year wonders, and TJ Edwards is returning from an injury.

Wide Receiver

The room has Luther Burden and Rome Odunze at the top, which is pretty legitimate. Between Jahdae Walker, Zavion Thomas, and Khaliff Raymond they have adequate depth, even if none of them are quite ready to step into that number three role.

Running back

The top two backs are solid, but D’Andre Swift is a bit replaceable, and Kyle Monangai did fall to round 7. They might be propelled a touch by the scheme and offensive line. The depth has serious questions, too.

Defensive Tackle

The room is deeper than edger rusher, but there are questions throughout the depth. Beyond that, Grady Jarrett is not getting any younger, and Gervon Dexter has not broken out yet.

Edge Rusher

Everyone in Chicago knew what the lowest position would be on this roster.
