Bears' Offensive Triplets Ranking Reveals One Major Problem

Chicago landed just outside the NFL's top 10, but the selections behind the ranking deserve scrutiny.

The Chicago Bears currently have the 11th-best offensive triplets in the NFL, per Matt Verderame. This is the ranking of the teams' best passer, rusher, and pass catcher. The selections for triplets are as interesting as the ranking.

Chicago Bears Offensive Triplets Bring Optimism

Caleb Williams obviously came in as the team's top passer. However, in a bit of a shock, the rusher used in this ranking was Kyle Monangai and not D’Andre Swift. The reasoning for Monangai over Swift was not listed, either.

Monangai was exciting in his rookie season, but he has 169 carries for 783 yards. Swift had 223 carries for 1,087. So, he not only had more carries, but averaged more yards per carry. He had a 54.7% success rate compared to 50.9% for Monangai as well.

So, Swift handled more work, created more explosive rushes, and was more efficient down-to-down. It is easy to get excited about Monangai, but it is hard to find objective measures that would put him over Swift at this point. If Verderame thinks Monangai is better than Swift, it should not have impacted their ranking, but it does feel as though Swift is being underrated, and that might be what has them a bit lower.

Still, there is just as much of a debate for the top pass catcher. Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and Colston Loveland all could be considered the best pass catchers. Verderame went with Loveland. This is much less debatable and a fair choice.

Still, the arguments might speak to the ranking. When looking at the supporting cast, the Bears are top five in almost any ranking. They are deep with talent. However, when looking at one specific talent, it is hard to find the Ja’Marr Chase or Saquon Barkley in the group.

Swift is great, but analysts do not even think he is the best runner on his team. Loveland broke out, but has only about half a season of legitimate production. When you add in that they have two talented rushers, they have three great pass catchers, and one of their tight ends is better because of the depth at tight end, it is easy to get excited.

However, their triplets failed to make the top ten, and that might be fair. They did come in second in their division. The Detroit Lions finished 2nd, the Green Bay Packers were 18th, and the Minnesota Vikings ranked 27th.
