The Chicago Bears' offense was on fire on Sunday, slapping 59 points on Carolina to their 37. They combined for a total of 96 points, making it the highest scoring NFL season opener of all time. The Bears offense was expected to be good, but I don't think anybody expected them to roll through Carolina's defense like this.
The previous record in the NFL was an astonishing 88 points, making Sundays total of points absolutely crazy. The previous record had been a battle between legendary quarterback Drew Brees and Ryan Fitzpatrick, both of whom had throw for 400+ yards and 3+ touchdowns. It was a battle for the ages, and Ben Johnson just flattened it.

Caleb Williams gave an excellent performance mustache and all, throwing for 269 yards, and 2 TDs. Additionally, he added another 65 yards with his legs, silencing many Williams doubters, at least for this week.
Williams had a good game on the ground, but his input was minuscule when compared to newly extended back D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, who combined for 224 yards on the day and 4 touchdowns. With each back reaching the 100 yard mark, the Bears are well on their way to placing themselves among the ranks of rushing teams in 2026.
Coach Johnson has been vocal about having the highest scoring offense of all time, a move that many pundits think has painted a target on the Bears' backs. But on the contrary, after winning the NFC North in 2025, defeating the Packers in the playoffs, and then giving the Rams a run for their money means that the Bears aren't sneaking up on anyone in 2026.
So why not be vocal about your goals if everyone is gunning for your team anyway? To score 59 points in your opener is certainly an excellent first step on the way.
The Bears will not score 59 points every week, but an opener like this proves Johnson's ambitions are more than empty rhetoric. If Chicago maintains anything close to this production, the rest of the NFL will have no choice but to take his goal seriously.
