After five weeks of struggling to see much production, second-year tight end Colston Loveland finally had a big game against the Atlanta Falcons. Loveland hauled in six passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. The six passes tied a season-high, but the yardage and touchdown were season best marks.

Despite the big game, offensive coordinator Press Taylor made it clear the team did not change anything to get him more involved.

"I don't think there was anything out of the ordinary,” said Taylor on the usage of Loveland. “We weren't searching it. We didn't force it."

Taylor noted that it was just how the game went that Loveland ended up producing. His touchdown was not even a play that was called for him, but rather the ball finding him in a scramble drill.

“I mean, the touchdown he had on the scramble play, that was a tough catch,” said Taylor, praising the tight end. I mean, he took a big shot right there on the goal line, was able to hold on and finish the catch for us. But nothing new.”

Taylor added that there were no changes to call his number more. The increase in production had to do with Loveland performing better.

“I don't think there was any big change,” added Taylor. “It was his number just got called. I don't know if it was more than it had been in the past. It was just the ball was able to find him. We were in a rhythm in the pass game. He did a great job getting open. He made some tough catches.”

Loveland had three yards through the Bears' first two games. He entered the game with 13 catches for 110 yards through five games. However, Taylor noted that he is not alarmed.

“The season is still really young, and he was able to have a game for us there where he was able to produce, and the ball found him a couple times,” said Taylor.

The Bears exploded offensively in Week 1, but the big plays and dominance on the ground held Loveland out. Week 2 was played in a rainstorm and then Williams got hurt. In a competitive game with a healthy Williams, Loveland was able to produce.

So, while the Bears are not going out of their way to force him the ball, Loveland taking advantage with Williams should be a good sign for his chances moving forward.
