Following Dayo Odeyingbo’s season-ending Achilles injury, the Chicago Bears made a move ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline to bolster their pass rush, acquiring veteran Joe Tryon-Shoyinka from the Cleveland Browns.

The decision to trade for Tryon-Shoyinka wasn’t a needle mover for Bears fans, especially with the other rumored names on the block. However, with a team like Chicago that’s desperate for any pass rush help, beggars cannot be choosers.

When Tryon-Shoyinka met with the media on Wednesday, he said that he’ll be ready to go for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, per Scott Bair of Marquee Sports Network. But it's unclear what the veteran’s role will be.

That said, based on the Bears’ latest injury report on Thursday, they might need Tryon-Shoyinka to play a significant amount of snaps. According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, defensive end Dominique Robinson was among the four players who didn’t practice.

Joe Tryon-Shoyinka Gifted Chance to Make Immediate Impact with Bears

This is now the second practice that Robinson has missed due to an ankle injury, which has set the stage for him to be ruled out for Sunday’s game. The 27-year-old defensive end missed last week’s game because of said injury.

If Robinson is out again, the Bears will be looking for Daniel Hardy and Tryon-Shoyinka to fill in on those backup snaps. Austin Booker, who made his 2025 regular-season debut last week, will likely start opposite Montez Sweat. Booker played 37 defensive snaps, which was tied with Odeyingbo for second-most among the Bears' edge rushers.

As for Tryon-Shoyinka, you have to think that he’s chomping at the bit to get some playing time on a team that’s competing for a playoff spot. In eight games with the Browns, the 26-year-old pass rusher did not have a single sack, as he played more special teams snaps (58) than on defense (31).

However, despite not getting any sacks or playing much in Cleveland, Tryon-Shoyinka had a 73.5 Pro Football Focus grade and 29.2% pass rush win rate, according to Jacob Infante of Windy City Gridiron.

The Giants’ offensive line should present some sack opportunities for Tryon-Shoyinka as rookie QB Jaxson Dart has been sacked 19 times, including 11 times over the last three games.

There should be no excuse why the Bears can’t bring down Dart at least twice on Sunday, and you hope Tryon-Shoyinka, who has 15 sacks on his resume, can show why he was a former first-round pick.
