Bears may have quietly made the perfect pitch to Coby Bryant

Coby Bryant did not need to oversell his first impression of Halas Hall. With the arrival of OTAs on the football field, Bears safety Coby Bryant made an appearance on NFL Network's The Insiders, where he discussed his thoughts and though process when he chose to sign with Chicago back in March.

Bryant's comments were simple, but they speak volumes around the culture that Ben Johnson has been able to bring to Chicago. They also say something useful about where the Bears are under general manager Ryan Poles. Bryant referred to the atmosphere in Halas Hall, the Bears headquarters in lake forest, IL, as "exciting". He kept it short and sweet. Though he used few words, a lot can be discerned from what he did say.

Coby Bryant gives Bears fans another positive sign from Halas Hall

"Yeah, I mean, like I said, when I first got here, for the ones that don’t know, they kind of told me this is a cornerback room and you’re going to have the opportunity to be the number one guy."

For those that watched the 2025 Bears, the upcoming defense is going to look a far cry from the team you're used to. There are some returning names, but the defense handled more of the player turnover than the rest of the team this offseason.

As a result of the chaos, the safety room was in need of leadership. Who better to bring in than a young proven safety fresh off of his first Super Bowl win? That's exactly how it was framed to Bryant when he decided to come to Chicago. When it's viewed through that lens, it's easy to see why Bryant would want to play for Ben Johnson and his era of the Bears.

Bryant’s comments may not have been flashy, but they reinforced something Bears fans have heard repeatedly throughout the offseason. This coaching staff believes it has a vision, and players appear to be buying in early. If Bryant can turn that opportunity into production, Chicago’s secondary could become one of the more improved units on the roster in 2026.
