It has been quite a while since the Bears have drafted and developed top talent in the NFL. Jaylon Johnson has grown into one of the better corners in the league and Cole Kmet earned a second contract, but before last season the Bears have not really drafted particularly well.
The rookie class last season, however, was one to remember with Colston Loveland, Luther Burden III, Ozzy Trapilo, and Kyle Monangai all making big contributions. All these guys should continue to develop and become huge parts of what Ben Johnson and company are building in Chicago.
The Bears have one of the younger offenses in the league and a couple of guys that should be cornerstones of that are Caleb Williams and Darnell Wright.
Caleb Williams & Darnell Wright Land on Top Players Under 25 List
Mike Jones of the Athletic put together a list of the top 25 players in the league under 25 years old. The list was created with the help of NFL coaches, scouts and other front office members across the league.
Darnell Wright came in at number 23 after signing his record-breaking four-year, $116 million extension this offseason. Wright is coming off his best year as a pro landing an overall PFF grade of 81.4 – good for the 14th overall tackle in football. His run blocking grade of 85.6 was good for 6th overall and was also top 10 in snaps with 1,074.
The run game in Chicago looks much better when going right, behind Wright, right? The Bears had one of the best rushing attacks last season and that is large in part due to the play of Wright and hopefully just a glimpse of what is yet to come. We are all still waiting on Ben Johnson to get him a touchdown as well.
It should be no surprise that Caleb Williams also made this list, landing at 21. It is almost impossible to bring up anything related to the NFL as of recent without the mention of Williams. His play took major steps forward last year under Ben Johnson and should only continue to progress.
It is evident that not only Chicago fans believe the hype around Williams, but coaches and executives around the league as well by making this list. The "Iceman" has been everywhere this offseason on top of landing the cover of Madden so there is plenty of hype surrounding him going into his third season.
He does need to raise his completion percentage (58.1 last season), but the “wow” plays he makes routinely can overshadow a few dips in completion percentage. If Caleb can clean up some of the little things while not losing his fast ball the sky is limit for this offense not only this season, but for the foreseeable future.
