The Chicago Bears had a strong offseason but they did not hit the edge rusher position in the way that fans expected them to. So, they are naturally going to be linked to every edge rusher available. One edge rusher that will be tied to them often in the coming months is Von Miller. Matt Bowen of ESPN wrote that the fit is hard to ignore.
Is Von Miller a fit with the Chicago Bears in 2026?
Bowen seems to be missing what the Bears really need, though. He is suggesting that they sign Miller to be a designated pass rusher. He can complement Shemar Turner and Dayo Odeyingbo, who are returning from injuries. However, that leaves out Austin Booker, the Bears second best edge rusher, who had a strong 2025 season.
The thing with Booker is that he is best as a designated pass rusher in the role that Bowen is defining. The issue is that when Odeyingbo and Turner went down, Booker was asked to hold up against the run more often, and that is not his best ability. He struggled more and was not as active as a pass rusher.
So, Bowen could be missing that and thinking that Miller is still an upgrade over Booker when he is not. The team does not need to upgrade over Booker; they need to either replace or find upgrades from Odeyinbgo and Turner. These two are coming off of serious injuries, and expecting them to be healthy is optimistic. Expecting them to take steps forward next year seems very unrealistic.
So, they need an edge, just a different style of rusher than Miller. They are looking for a bigger body who fits the mold of Odyeingbo and Turner. That is why the team has been linked to Joey Bosa and Cameron Jordan more than Miller.
Bosa has played in a variety of schemes and can hold up against the run, and Jordan has played in this exact scheme with Dennis Allen on the New Orleans Saints. They complement Booker, not the other way around.
Bowen is obviously a sound mind in the NFL media landscape, and he knows a lot about the NFL, so perhaps he knows something we do not. However, in most cases, the Bears are not going to add Miller because he does not do enough to improve the biggest question the Bears have at edge rusher.
