The Chicago Bears didn’t make many drastic changes to their wide receiver unit this offseason, even though they didn’t re-sign veteran Keenan Allen. The Bears added Luther Burden III in the second round, who has a chance to be utilized in the slot immediately.
Then Chicago added vets Devin Duvernay and Olamide Zaccheaus on one-year deals. Neither guy will push the starters for playing time, but they provide the Bears with depth, just in case of injury.
That said, the Bears aren’t done potentially adding more firepower to their offense. In fact, they have reportedly brought in a wide receiver, who has ties to head coach Ben Johnson, and could give Chicago’s offense another dimension in the passing game.
Bears Bring In Veteran WR DJ Chark for Visit Ahead of Training Camp
On Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that free agent veteran wide receiver DJ Chark recently visited the Bears.
Former #Chargers WR DJ Chark, one of the top veteran free agents available, recently visited the #Bears, sources say.

As previously mentioned, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see the Bears bring in Chark at least to see where he’s at. Johnson coached the veteran receiver in 2022, when he was the offensive coordinator in Detroit.
During his lone season in the Motor City, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound wideout had 30 receptions (52 targets) for 502 yards and three touchdowns. He also averaged 16.7 yards per reception, which speaks to his skill of stretching the field.
The veteran wide receiver has spent the last two years with the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Chargers. Last season, Chark could not find his footing in Los Angeles as he sustained a hip injury.
Chark only played in seven games, which was the second-fewest in his career. The veteran WR had four receptions (10 targets) for 31 yards and a touchdown, which isn’t typical production from him.
If he’s healthy, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Bears to kick the tires on the veteran. He knows Johnson’s style and offense and could give Caleb Williams another stretch-the-field option next to Odunze and Burden. It would also put a guy like Tyler Scott on the hot seat, who hasn’t lived up to expectations as a fourth-round pick through his first two years.
