The Chicago Bears saw some lineup changes in their Week 6 win over the Atlanta Falcons. As they get ready for their Week 7 matchup against the New England Patriots, there are a few players who should see more snaps.
5 Chicago Bears Who Need More Snaps
Ozzy Trapilo
The Bears starting left tackle made his debut after a patellar injury ended his rookie season. Trapilo played 17 snaps in his debut, amounting to 22% of the offensive snaps. He was able to shake off some rust, but the team needs to see more from him moving forward. The Bears should get Trapilo on the field for at least half of the snaps as they get him ready for full-time work.
Luke Newman
Jonah Jackson left the game after 50 snaps with a quad injury. He is considered week-to-week. Newman stepped in and played 27 snaps without Jackson. That doubled his career total in snaps. The Bears have not confirmed Newman will start, but all indications are that he will. If so, he should get a full game of snaps for the first time in his NFL career.
Luther Burden
Burden played a season-low 30 snaps in Week 6. The lowest total of snaps he played prior to the game was 42, and the lowest rate was 56%. He played in just 39% of the Bears' offensive snaps in Week 7.
The Bears made it clear that Burden was not benched and it was not injury-related. Still, it is quite surprising to see his snap count drop so significantly. The team needs to get him in rhythm, and he should play more next week.
Kyler Gordon
Gordon made his 2026 debut after spending the first six weeks of the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. The Bears use him sparingly. He played just 17 snaps in his return. Of those, 10 were pass rush snaps. The Bears have to mix up how they use him, and hopefully they will use him even more.
Like Trapilo, Gordon should be taking on more work as he gets closer to being a full-time player.
Shemar Turner
Turner returned from his season-ending injury from last season in Week 6 as well. He played just seven snaps in his return. The Bears are going to need a lot more from him, though. With Dayo Odeyingbo on the IR and Montez Sweat suspended, the team does not have the depth to slow play his return.
