The Chicago Bears have elevated veteran wide receiver Kaden Davis from the practice squad in anticipation of Sunday's match against the Carolina Panthers. The 27 year old wide out has spent time in multiple organizations prior to arriving with the Bears, including stints with multiple NFL, USFL, and UFL teams.
While mainly a practice squad name, Davis has only participated in two NFL games across 2024 and 2025, both with the Cleveland Browns. He gets another shot at the NFL with the Bears as they face receiver injury issues, though its unlikely Davis sees a significant amount of snaps.
Kaden Davis still faces a crowded path to playing time
The Bears boast a young and talented receiver room, but it's not been without it's own challenges and setbacks. Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III are expected to share the limelight, though both have experienced injuries during training camp.
Odunze is listed as questionable for Sunday's match, but he's publicly stated that he expects to play. Many fans are hesitant about Odunze following his foot injury that saw him miss five games in 2025.
Burden is healthy and expected to be ready to go come game time, but he hasn't been without injury this offseason, either. He didn't take a single snap in any of the preseason games, even when the starters were on the field, and he's since returned to practice. The uncertainty surrounding these two young receivers shows why the Bears have elected to bring in some depth in Davis, even if it's not needed.
Kalif Raymond has the most experience in the room, and he was likely brought in due to his familiarity with Ben Johnson and his system. The two previously spent time together in Detroit, where Ben Johnson cut his teeth as an offensive coordinator.
Zavion Thomas and Jahdae Walker are also expected on the field on Sunday, which points even further to Davis' presence on the field to be a depth move. Davis has the chance to make his first real impact in an NFL game, but he'll need to play wisely, as his opportunities won't come often.
For now, Davis gives the Bears a little more security at a suddenly vulnerable position. If Chicago needs him Sunday, he must be ready.
