Bears' Front Office Reportedly Feuding Amid Search for Next Head Coach
By Jovan Alford
The Chicago Bears will have a crucial decision regarding who will be the next head coach to lead this franchise in the offseason. The Bears’ front office thought Matt Eberflus was that guy, but it didn’t work out as the team fired him the day after Thanksgiving, coincidentally on Black Friday.
With Eberflus out the door and interim head coach Thomas Brown taking over, it hasn’t stopped candidates like Mike Vrabel, Ben Johnson, Brian Flores, and Joe Brady from being connected to Chicago. It will be interesting to see if the Bears interview any of these candidates in the coming weeks.
However, before the Bears can think about hiring a new head coach, they have some feuding in the front office that needs to be handled asap.
On Monday’s edition of the Silvy and Waddle Show on ESPN 1000, Silvy mentioned that Bears GM Ryan Poles is frustrated about reporting to team president Kevin Warren (h/t former NFL tight end Clay Harbor). He also says that Poles might’ve not taken GM the job if this was going to be the new change.
Poles initially reported to the team owner, not Warren, but now he reports to Warren, who then goes to the owner. The Bears GM was reportedly “very vocal” about this new dynamic to people he trusted inside the organization.
Coincidentally, this is not the first time that we heard about these two feuding. Dianna Russini of The Athletic highlighted this in her story last weekend. Russini mentioned that any coaching candidate will want to have a clear understanding of the relationship between Poles and Warren.
There was tension between the two reportedly during their press conference after the Eberflus firing. Warren did most of the talking and is the leading Chicago’s head coaching search after Poles had his shot with Eberflus.
Nonetheless, Chicago wants to get out of its turmoil and hopefully change the narrative around the organization. This feud needs to be handled. No head coach will want to be a part of a team where the team president and GM aren’t on the same page.
