Bears' first unofficial depth chart reveals where key roster battles stand

The Chicago Bears released their first unofficial depth chart of the offseason. While they note in the title that it is not officially what the team plans to do and is more of a guide before the preseason, it is always interesting to see the details that could end up being relevant in the preseason.

For now, Roschon Johnson remains the third running back. Reports are that veteran rusher Salvon Ahmed is pushing him, and he is currently listed fourth. 

At wide receiver, Jahdae Walker is on the second line while Zavion Thomas is third string. If there was any debate about where Walker stood with the team, that should resolve things. 

By far the most interesting note on the offensive side of the ball is left tackle. Right now, they have three names listed as potential starters. The Bears have Theo Benedet as the right tackle, and he has served more as the swing player than a player competing. 

So, right now it appears to be down to Braxton Jones, Jedrick Wills, and Kiran Amegadjie. That does mean Benedet is locked into a job, and one of these three might not make the team, though. 

At guard, Jordan McFadden is still ahead of the UDFA Caden Barnett.

On the defensive line, the biggest note is that Dayo Odeyingbo is ahead of Austin Booker. Booker closed out the year and looked good. However, in a perfect world, Odeyingbo plays the early downs, and Booker comes in for pass rush help.

Shemar Turner is not listed as he recovered from his injury. So, Daniel Hardy is currently lined up with the second team on the edge. Jeremiah Martin and Jamree Kromah are the third-string edge rushers. 

Meanwhile, both Kentavius Street and Neville Galimore are ahead of Jordan van den Berg. This should not be a huge surprise due to the rookie just returning from injury. 

At linebacker, Noah Sewell is on the second-team despite not practicing due to injury. Jack Sanborn and Ruben Hyppolite are third-string and competing to stick.

The team lists the nickel back battle as Cam Lewis, Jaylon Jones, then Skyler Thomas. Malik Muhammad is listed as an outside cornerback, and Josh Blackwell is listed as a safety. After pulling Lewis out of the safety rotation and missing Elijah Hicks, it appears Blackwell is getting work at safety. 

Lastly, Raymond is ahead of Thomas in both return slots.
