The Chicago Bears have been one of the most active teams of the offseason, completely revamping the offensive line. After trading for Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney before free agency kicked off, the Bears signed the best center on the market, giving Drew Dalman a three-year, $42 million deal.
The aggressiveness demonstrated by the Bears front office caught the eye of their rivals. The Detroit Lions' star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown took to his podcast to complain about the moves the Bears have made so far. The talented playmaker said that his former coach, Ben Johnson, is "making moves left and right" as if they have unlimited money.
""They have unlimited money. What the f**** is this?...Ben [Johnson] is just making moves left and right."Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown
St. Brown and Johnson have a close working relationship as the latter has been with the Lions throughout the former's NFL career. First as the passing game coordinator, then the offensive coordinator, Johnson has played a huge role in helping make St. Brown one of the best wide receivers in the league.
During their time together in Detroit, the Lions had some of the most dynamic offenses in the league. A big factor in that was the elite offensive line play. Johnson is obviously trying to replicate that in Chicago to make sure promising signal-caller Caleb Williams is well protected.
With Thuney, Jackson, and Dalman on the inside, the Bears offensive line will look much better next season, leaving Williams with no excuses to take the next step.
The Bears have lost five of their last six games against the Lions. The deep familiarity and knowledge Johnson has of St. Brown and the Lions should hopefully help Chicago get back to winning ways in the NFC North. The Bears' moves so far have certainly instilled that fear in their opponents.
